Questions from the session

Before you press play

Short answers to the practical questions that matter before a tool becomes part of your workflow.

Do I need to change my DAW?

Usually not. Many tools run as compatible plug-ins or return audio or MIDI to your existing session. Test formats, timing and export options before changing hosts. Our session guide explains how to evaluate the handoff.

What is the difference between AI composition and a mix assistant?

Composition tools propose musical material such as notes, structure or rendered phrases. Mix assistants analyse or process existing audio. A product may combine these functions, so assess the specific task rather than its AI label.

Can an assistant finish my mix?

It can propose processing or a starting balance, but it cannot reliably infer your intended emotion or musical hierarchy. Keep final decisions grounded in level-matched listening and suitable references. See Decisions inside the mix.

Can I release generated music commercially?

Check the service terms, source material and applicable law. Commercial permission is not the same as copyright protection and does not guarantee freedom from third-party claims. Obtain legal advice when rights uncertainty could affect a release.

Are separated stems the original multitracks?

No. Source separation estimates components from a combined recording. Expect possible leakage, transient damage and unstable ambience, especially around exposed details. Listen to breath sounds, cymbal tails and transitions before committing.

Is it safe to upload an unreleased vocal?

Only proceed after checking the service’s retention, training and sharing terms and obtaining appropriate permission from the performer and other rights holders. Consider a local route when confidentiality matters. Do not assume that a paid plan automatically excludes model training.

Why does the processed version always seem better?

It may simply be louder. Match perceived playback level, compare the same passage and temporarily hide the interface before deciding. If the preference disappears, keep listening rather than trusting the preset name.

Does royalty-free mean there are no restrictions?

No. A licence may still impose attribution, redistribution, subscription or use restrictions. Read the terms attached to the particular service or file. Our source-and-rights checklist gives you a practical record to keep.

What should I archive after an AI-assisted session?

Keep original sources, selected outputs, edited MIDI where available, printed audio, a reference mix and a readme with tempo, file alignment, versions and source permissions. Do not depend on a prompt or cloud history to reproduce the same output.

Do you sell or rank production software?

No. Cedarwhirlbantr is an independent informative website. Product names provide context, not endorsements or a universal ranking. Read our approach for how we frame the guidance.
